My name is Mike Patterson, I live in SW Ontario, Canada, and I'm currently a staff member at the University of Waterloo. I might normally be a bit more circumspect in describing myself, but lots of my data's been all over the Internet for years, so I might as well own up to at least some of it.

This blawg is a collection of various pieces I've written since early 2006. It used to be much larger, but I deleted most of the work-related content some years back, as it's no longer relevant - it was mostly writeups of what I'd been doing for the prior week as part of my job supporting researchers in CS at UW.

A good chunk of what's left is hockey content I wrote mostly between 2006 and 2010. In 2010 I mostly stopped watching the NHL, although I did watch a fair number of Oilers games in 2018-19. Around then is when I also started a new job on campus, and my output dropped significantly because of an unwillingness to take the time, some family happenings, and mostly a lack of interest in long-form writing. As of September 2019, there are still about 440 articles remaining. The temptation when I was changing out my WordPress install for Pelican was to delete many articles due to lack of context (I wrote a few sentences around a link to some other site, which has since gone dark). Instead, I went to some effort to find archive.org versions of those articles, but I still may go back and delete them.

In any case, I'm writing this on the assumption that at some point I may resume my prior output.
